Nov. 4. Capital Project Spotlight, Week 2: Enhancing Classrooms and Student Facilities
As we continue sharing information about Unadilla Valley's proposed capital project, this week we are highlighting improvements to several spaces that our students, staff, and community use regularly.
While some portions of the proposed project focus on creating new opportunities for students, other improvements address the ongoing responsibility of maintaining our school building and providing safe, functional, and welcoming learning environments.
Cafeteria Floor Replacement
Our cafeteria is one of the most frequently used spaces in the district. Beyond serving breakfast and lunch, it is an important gathering place for students, families, and our school community. The cafeteria also hosts dinners and special events that bring students and their families together, making it a space that serves a much broader purpose than daily meals.
The proposed replacement of the cafeteria flooring would address the condition of this heavily used space while providing a durable surface designed to withstand daily activity, family gatherings, and community events. This improvement would help us maintain a welcoming and functional environment for the many ways our cafeteria is used throughout the year.
Family and Consumer Science Classroom Improvements
Our Family and Consumer Science (FACS) program provides students with valuable opportunities to develop practical skills they can use throughout their lives.
Proposed improvements to this classroom would help maintain a modernized, functional, hands-on learning environment where students can develop skills related to food preparation, nutrition, personal responsibility, and everyday living.
These improvements reflect our commitment to providing learning opportunities that prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
Storm Alley Bathroom Renovations
The bathrooms located in Storm Alley serve an important role in our school throughout the day and beyond regular school hours. These facilities are used by students, staff, and community members attending the many activities and events hosted at Unadilla Valley.
Throughout the year, our school welcomes families and community members for concerts, drama productions, and athletic competitions, particularly during the winter months when our indoor facilities are heavily used. These bathrooms serve not only our students and staff during the school day but also the many visitors who come to support our students and participate in school events.
The proposed renovations would modernize these aging facilities while maintaining the existing layout, improving their overall condition and providing more functional, welcoming spaces for students, staff, and community members who use our building throughout the year.
These improvements reflect our responsibility to maintain facilities that serve both our school and the broader Unadilla Valley community.
Elementary Classroom Bottle-Filling Stations
Access to drinking water is an important part of a student's school day, particularly for our youngest learners.
The proposed installation of bottle-filling stations in our primary elementary classrooms would make drinking water more convenient and accessible while reducing the need for students to leave their learning spaces.
Why These Improvements Matter
Maintaining our school facilities is an ongoing responsibility to our students, staff, and community. These proposed improvements are not simply about updating the appearance of our building. They are about addressing everyday needs, supporting practical learning experiences, and taking care of the facilities our community has invested in over the years.
Our school is more than a place where students attend classes. It is also a gathering place where families and community members come together to celebrate student accomplishments, enjoy performances, and support athletic programs. Maintaining these shared spaces helps ensure that our facilities continue to serve the entire community for years to come.
The proposed capital project, totaling $24,995,000, is designed to accomplish these improvements and other district priorities without increasing the local tax levy.

Oct. 27 – Project Focus Areas
Unadilla Valley Central School District is looking ahead to the future of its students, school and community. To move that vision forward, the UV Board of Education has approved bringing a proposed capital project to district voters on Monday, Nov. 23. This proposed project has a goal of creating inspiring learning environments, strengthening school safety, preserving district facilities and enhancing opportunities for student athletics and community activities.
With an estimated cost just under $25 million, the proposed project is designed to make meaningful improvements throughout the district while remaining mindful of the financial impact on local families. If approved by voters, the project will use our capital reserve fund to ensure there is no increase in the local tax levy.
Community members are invited to learn more and share in the district’s vision during public information meetings at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, and Monday, Nov. 16, in the UV Library.
Each week until the vote, we will take a deeper look at each Project Focus Area.
The Project Focus Areas
Spaces that inspire learning and connection: Auditorium renovations, a Library Cafe and Learning Commons, and an Agricultural Training and Learning Center.
Enhanced classroom and student facilities: Cafeteria floor replacement, upgrades to the Family and Consumer Science classroom, modernized bathrooms in Storm Alley while retaining the existing male/female layout, and new bottle-filling stations in the elementary primary classrooms.
A safer school environment: Security improvements at school entrances and interior doors, along with fire alarm and security system upgrades.
Well-maintained buildings and grounds: Greenhouse repairs, paving of the bus loop and north and south parking lots, and replacement of the bus garage’s overhead and exterior doors, along with installation of a bus lift.
Expanded athletic and recreational opportunities: Relocation and improvements to the baseball and softball fields, including turf infields; relocation and improvements to the tennis courts; and resurfacing of the running track.
Week 1: Spaces that Inspire Learning and Connection
Auditorium Renovations
Our goal is to maintain and improve an important space that has served generations of students, families, and community members. The auditorium provides a place for student performances, concerts, presentations, school events, and community gatherings.
These improvements will help preserve this valuable facility while creating a safer, more comfortable, and functional environment for students and visitors. By investing in the auditorium, we are protecting an important community resource and ensuring future generations have opportunities to participate in the arts, develop confidence, and share their talents with our community.
Library Café and Learning Commons
Our goal is to build upon our existing library to create a welcoming and practical learning environment that better supports how students learn, study, and work together. The Library Café and Learning Commons will provide flexible spaces for independent study, group projects, academic support, and collaboration.
An important part of this space is the opportunity for students to operate a small café, gaining valuable real-world experience in customer service, money management, business operations, and responsibility. The café could also provide opportunities for student clubs and organizations to raise funds while developing leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
This investment is about more than updating a library. It is about making better use of an existing school space to provide students with practical experiences, encourage responsibility, and develop skills they can carry into college, technical training, military service, or the workforce.
Agricultural Training and Learning Center
Agriculture has long been an important part of our community's history, economy, and way of life. Our goal is to strengthen agricultural education by providing students with additional opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences that connect classroom instruction to practical applications.
The Agricultural Training and Learning Center will help expand opportunities for students to work with animals, explore agricultural practices, and develop skills in animal care, agriculture, problem-solving, and responsibility. Additional outdoor learning opportunities may also support future projects involving crops, land management, and other agricultural experiences.
These improvements will help prepare students for careers in agriculture, skilled trades, and related industries while also supporting those who choose to continue their education. By strengthening agricultural education, we are honoring an important part of our rural heritage and providing students with practical skills that can serve them throughout their lives.
Sept. 22 – Board of Education Approves Capital Project for Public Vote
The Unadilla Valley CSD Board of Education on Sept. 21 approved putting forth a capital project this fall to voters that is designed to enhance student learning spaces, improve school safety, shore up the school building for the future and enhance our athletics and overall community experience.
The project is expected to be just shy of $25 million and would not include an increase in the tax levy if approved by voters on Monday, Nov. 23. Voting will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at the Community Gym entrance to the building on the south side of campus.
The proposed project was developed through the work of the district’s Facilities Committee, which held public meetings, and received input from community stakeholders during the course of the 2025-26 school year. It was also developed under consultation with the district’s long-term financial planning firm.
Key features of the project include:
- Auditorium renovations
- Library Cafe/Learning Commons
- Pole barn to serve as an Agricultural Education Center
- Cafeteria floor replacement
- Upgrades to the Family & Consumer Science Classroom
- Modernizing bathrooms in Storm Alley, while retaining current male/female layout
- Improving security at school entrances and interior doors
- Fire alarm and security system upgrades
- Water bottle filling stations
- Paving of the bus loop, as well as north and south parking lots
- Bus garage overhead and exterior door replacements, as well as a bus lift
- Greenhouse repairs
- Baseball and softball field relocation and improvements
- Tennis court relocation and improvements
- Running track resurfacing
“This proposed capital project balances investments in student learning, enhanced school security, infrastructure preservation, and athletics, while remaining within the Board of Education’s target budget,” Superintendent Brenton Taylor said. “The project addresses UV’s highest priorities, protects taxpayer investment and positions our school district to serve our students and the community well in the future.”
The capital project will be tax-neutral for district residents. Through the use of New York State Building Aid, existing debt retirement, and long-term financial planning, Unadilla Valley would complete these improvements without increasing the local tax levy.
