As part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, the Unadilla Valley Central School District continues to make steady progress implementing key strategies outlined in our School Comprehensive Education Plan (SCEP) and District Comprehensive Improvement Plan (DCIP). This work remains focused on strengthening instruction, increasing student ownership of learning, and fostering supportive, engaging classroom environments.
Below is a snapshot of the work happening this year to strengthen instruction, engagement, and student support.
Helping Students Take Ownership of Their Learning
Since September, teachers have been participating in ongoing professional learning focused on helping students better understand what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how they know they are making progress. This includes classroom strategies that encourage student participation, discussion, and engagement. This work will continue through May and is designed to help students become more confident, active learners.
Creating Positive and Supportive Classrooms
In October, staff took part in training focused on restorative practices. These approaches help teachers build strong relationships, support positive behavior, and reduce classroom disruptions. The goal is to create learning environments where students feel respected, supported, and ready to learn.
Strengthening Curriculum and Instruction
Teachers continue to meet regularly to ensure that students across all grades are receiving consistent, high-quality instruction. This work helps align what students are learning, how it is taught, and how progress is measured, so all students have access to the same strong learning opportunities.
Using Data to Support Student Growth
The district has implemented i-Ready assessments to better understand student strengths and areas where additional support may be needed. Students completed assessments at the beginning and middle of the year, and teachers are using this information to provide targeted support and interventions in reading and math.
