a student reads poetry in front of a class

Rachel Guido deVries, a poet, writer and educator who conducts poetry workshops for schools, visited middle school English classes at Unadilla Valley this week. She is approaching 20 years of presenting to UV students!

Her workshop at UV focused on riddles during the beginning part of the week. The students also worked with the poet on describing things without naming them. They also turned to the late-Gordon Lightfoot and his song, “If You Could Read My Mind” for some inspiration.

The culmination of the multi-day workshops, which are coordinated by English teacher Katie Wolford, is a poetry reading by students in front of their peers. Students did a great job reading their own poems in front of their peers today!
