Several area school superintendents, including Unadilla Valley Superintendent Robert Mackey, met with New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia on Thursday at ONC BOCES in Milford.
The meeting, coordinated and attended by State Sen. James L. Seward, was an opportunity for local school administrators to hear directly from Elia on important education issues facing the state – and for her to get feedback directly from local school districts.
“It’s encouraging to see Commissioner Elia traveling across the state to meet with administrators, staff and faculty about the most pressing concerns in education faced by our school districts. We are hopeful the New York State Legislature and the governor will reach budget and policy solutions that will advance the quality of education and help ensure bright futures for our students,” Mackey said after the meeting.
Issues covered during the meeting include state education standards, testing and funding for public schools.
The state Legislature is working on budgetary issues now ahead of the start of the state’s fiscal year on April 1.
