Students Plant Tulips to Cap Red Ribbon Week
Next spring a bed of tulips will - if nature cooperates - rise from the earth in front of Unadilla Valley Elementary School.

It will be a product of Plant the Promise, part of Red Ribbon Week, held last week in the Elementary.
Twenty-one students – one from each class – were picked as winners of a poster contest and were given the opportunity to plant bulbs of red tulips outside the school Wednesday, Nov. 2. They were also each given a bracelet and a shovel for the creative posters.

“The premise behind Plant the Promise to the remind students about the importance of making healthy choices for their bodies,” Elementary Counselor Sheri Houck said.

Bill Beadle and Reno Rutenber, from the maintenance crew, helped with the planting.
Red Ribbon Week at Unadilla Valley was a collaboration between school counselors, other staff and the UV SADD Chapter between Oct. 24 and Oct. 28 and was part of a national campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use and the importance of healthy decision making.
