Secondary School Named Among the Top Third in the Country
Unadilla Valley Secondary School has earned a Bronze Medal and a place in the top third of all high schools in the country in a study by U.S. News and World Report.

The rankings, released earlier this spring, cite the school’s test scores. The district is performing above the state averages in both English and mathematics. The rankings also take into account graduation rates and college readiness.

Out of more than 22,000 high schools in the country examined by U.S. News and World Report, less than 30 percent receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal.

But this wasn’t just a “one-off” for Unadilla Valley. The district has now achieved this honor for four out of the last five years.

Superintendent Robert Mackey lauded the Secondary School staff led by Principal Frank Johnson. But it isn’t just a credit to the Secondary School, according to Mr. Mackey.

“The educational experience from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 is geared toward academic growth,” Mr. Mackey said.

Professional development of staff and faculty is constant focus at Unadilla Valley and is a key reason our students are seeing academic success. Community support is also big factor, because it gives students context, a sense of belonging and a sense of place, according to Mr. Mackey.
