Meet the Board Candidates; Public Budget Hearing held Monday, May 8
A Meet the Candidates Night, as well as the Annual Public Budget Hearing, was held immediately following a regularly scheduled Unadilla Valley CSD Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 8.

Superintendent Robert Mackey also gave a presentation on the proposed 2017-18 budget. For more information on the proposed school budget, please see our budget page. The budget vote is Tuesday, May 16.

There are five candidates who submitted paperwork to the district to get on the ballot. There are three open seats. Candidates also submitted answers to a questionairre. Their answers as provided by them are as follows:

Victoria Gregory, incumbent

Personal background - Married to Everett Gregory for 36 years, no children. Associate’s degree in Applied Science Horticulture from SUNY Morrisville. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education from Cornell University. Masters of Arts in Teaching in Agriculture Education from Cornell University.

Experience you will bring to the board - 20+ years of School Board experience between the former New Berlin and current Unadilla Valley Board of Education; President of New Berlin Rotary; Secretary of Pittsfield Fire Department.

Reasons for running for the board - My investment in the future of educating children by helping to make decisions that allocate the resources needed for that investment.

Charles Jenison

Personal background - Divorced with one daughter and three grandchildren. 56 years in the district. One granddaughter in school and one grandson not yet in school. Graduate of New Berlin Central School.

Experience you will bring to the board - 34 and half years of working in the school system in the maintenance area. Leadership roles as President of NYSASS B & G Northern Catskill Chapter; President of Unadilla Valley CSEA.

Reasons for running for the board - To help make the best decision for the students, staff, and the taxpayers of the district.

Kimberly Murray, incumbent

Personal background - I have close personal ties to the local area. My family has lived in the Norwich and South New Berlin areas for generations. My mother and her six siblings were all graduates of South New Berlin. I was born and raised in Norwich and returned to the area after completing college in 1997. I have lived in the UV school district with my family for 16 years. I have a stepdaughter who graduated from UV and we have an eleven year old son who is currently in the sixth grade at UV.

Experience you will bring to the board - I have worked as a school based Speech Therapist for twenty years. I have a master’s degree in Literacy Education and more recently received a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership.
As a current school board member, bring with me all of the knowledge, training and experience specific to Unadilla Valley that I have gained over the past three years. I look forward to the opportunity to serve my community and school district for another term.

Reasons for running for the board - I would like to use my professional knowledge and experience as an educator to benefit my local community and school district. As a parent and taxpayer, I understand the local issues impacting our children and district. I would like an opportunity to serve a second term as a school board member for Unadilla Valley so that I can continue my efforts to support children, education and my community.

Richard Potter, incumbent

Personal background - I have lived in the Unadilla Valley Central School District for the past 20 years. I have a daughter who graduated from UVCS. I have working in the community for 25 years and have done a lot of fundraising and community involvement.

Experience you will bring to the board - Having completed one term on the School Board, I have gained a lot of experience. I attend every educational class that is offer to School Board members as well as being a substitute for the Chenango County School Board. I am the representative for the Health Insurance Consortium for our district and am also on the Negotiations Committee, Facilities Committee and Audit Committees.

Reasons for running for the board - I believe it is the school that prepares our children for the future. The best chance at a successful career whether it is a CEO or a carpenter begins in school and we should give our children the best chance possible.

Jamie Thompson

Personal background - Resident of UVCS district since 2001. Certified childcare business owner. Married with three children ages 8, 11, and 12 all currently enrolled at UVCS.

Experience you will bring to the board - 2006 current employment consisted of 3 self-starter businesses. As a well-connected member of the community, was hired to institute starting of private healthcare practice; followed by opening a new banking location. Now currently certified family daycare provider with focus on early childhood intervention.

Reasons for running for the board - To create better outcome opportunities for children of UVCS. To ensure safe and secure environment for district. Ensuring educators can provide best education possible. Securing an educational system for all students with focus on early intervention programs.
