Three school board seats will be up for a vote May 21

In addition to voting on the 2019-20 school budget in May, Unadilla Valley Central School District will also be filling three seats on the UV Board of Education.

Voting on both the board candidates and the budget will take place in the District Office Lobby between noon and 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 21.

The following three seats will be on the ballot this year: 

  • The seat held currently by Kristin L. Rumovicz, which is a 3-year term expiring June 30, 2022.
  • The seat held currently by Tammie Emrich, which is a 3-year term expiring June 30, 2022.
  • The seat held currently by Kim Murray, which is a 1-year term expiring June 30, 2020.

School board candidate nominating petitions are due in the office of the District Clerk by 5 p.m., Monday, April 22.

The UV Board of Education has seven members overall.

According to the New York State School Boards Association, school board members have the following roles:

  • Create a shared vision for the future of education
  • Set the direction of the school district to achieve the highest student performance
  • Provide rigorous accountability for student achievement results
  • Develop a budget and present it to the community, aligning district resources to improve achievement
  • Support a healthy school district culture for work and learning
  • Create strategic partnerships with the community
    stakeholders
  • Build the district’s progress through continuous improvement
  • Adopt and maintain current policies
  • Hire and evaluate the superintendent
  • Ratify collective bargaining agreements
  • Maintain strong ethical standards
