UV kindergartners conclude ELA unit with “tea and crumpet” party
Kindergarten students at Unadilla Valley recently experienced what it was like to eat and drink like queens and kings.

Students dressed like royalty (think paper crowns) held a “tea and crumpet” party as they finished an English Language Arts listening unit on kings and queens. For about three weeks, the kindergarten classes learned about the royal family, the crown prince, what a kingdom was, and more.

“We talked a lot about castles and the difference in lifestyles between royalty and other people,” said teacher Jeanine Potter.

“The Kings and Queen unit is a part of the Common Core listening strand. Kids are shown images, and there are questions they respond to at the end. They also have to write a simple sentence.”

The "tea and crumpet" party featured iced tea and biscuits, and some children even brought in princess outfits. And during the party, students watched “Cinderella” while they ate.

“They loved it,” Potter added.
