Cold weather tips: how to protect your kids
Due to an arctic front passing through the region on Wednesday and Thursday, the UV administrative team and the National Weather Service advise parents to take extra precautions when sending children to the bus stop or outside.

Dangerously cold and life threatening wind chills can result in frostbite and/or hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

The National Weather Service advises:
• Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight warm clothing; Trapped air between the layers will insulate you. Outer garments should be tightly woven, water repellent and woven;
• It is very important to cover all exposed flesh to protect from frostbite;
• Wear a hat because 40 percent of your body heat can be lost from your head;
• Cover your mouth to protect lungs from cold;
• Mittens, snug at the wrist, are better than gloves; and
• Try to stay dry and out of the wind
