Unadilla Valley students learn the dangers of drinking and driving
NEW BERLIN - Driving a golf car around a few orange cones isn’t very difficult for most high school students. But driving the cart with “fatal vision” goggles proved to be a lot harder during a recent exercise at Unadilla Valley.

School resource officer Michael S. Hilla partnered with the physical education department and asked students to participate in activities that stressed the dangers of drinking and driving.

Students wore the fatal vision goggles, which simulate a person being intoxicated, and performed a series of field sobriety tests as well as drove a golf cart through an obstacle course. Hilla said the students were very interested in the exercise and asked a lot of good questions.

“It’s important for students to learn at an early age the dangers of drinking and driving,” Hilla said.

“Even a few drinks can impair the way you drive and lead to harmful consequences.”
