Meet new UV elementary reading teacher Emily Ewald
New Unadilla Valley elementary reading teacher Emily Ewald knows how important reading is. That importance easily helped her choose her career path. She comes to UV after receiving her master’s degree in literacy from Elmira College.

We asked her some questions to get to know her better:

Q. Why did you want to become a reading teacher?
A. Reading is really important and there is reading in everything you do. I want to help people be successful.

Q. Did you read a lot growing up and do you read a lot now?
A. I do. I really like to read fiction.

Q. What’s your teaching style like?
A. I like to have fun, but I like there to be order in the classroom. As long as everyone’s doing what they are supposed to do, it’s going to be a great day.

Q. What’s important tool in teaching an elementary student to read?
A. One thing I focus on is making the material relevant and individual to a student. And it should always be fun.

Q. What’s the most rewarding part of being a teacher?
A. When the students realize they are getting something, you can see it on their face.

Q. What do you want parents to know?
A. I take this very seriously and I will do whatever it takes to make sure my students are successful.

Q. Why did you choose UV?
A. I like the small school setting and I like the location. I also like the people too. It’s a great place to be.
