School Resource Officer to Talk About ''Stranger, Danger"

School Resource Officer John Lowe will be speaking with Unadilla Valley students on Friday about “stranger, danger.”

Lowe, an officer with the New Berlin Police Department, who works inside UV’s halls on school days, said he will be going over a variety of scenarios with elementary students.

Although ‘’creepy clown’’ sightings have been in the news lately, it’s always a good time to talk with students about safety. With Halloween coming up later this month, there are also important safety messages that should be reiterated to students, he said.

Lowe said he will talk about why children shouldn’t approach strangers and what to do if strangers approach them. He said he will run through different scenarios, such as strangers asking for help looking for a “lost dog” or strangers trying to hand out candy. He said he will also emphasize how it is important to stay in groups.

Lowe said students often come to him for advice or just to chat, and said he will encourage them to report any stranger activity in the community.
