Secondary Principal Search Enters Final Stages
The search to replace retiring Secondary School Principal Frank Johnson is entering its final stage.

On Thursday, March 2, three finalists met with several search committees – two in-person and one via Skype.

Johnson is retiring after 33 years with Unadilla Valley Central School District or New Berlin Central School District, one of its two predecessor districts. For the last 11 years, he served as principal. He began as a substitute teacher and sports coach in the former New Berlin district before becoming a physical education teacher and athletic coordinator. After transitioning to the new Unadilla Valley district, Johnson became the secondary principal.

The search has been an intensive one and began in November. The committees include administrators, staff members, faculty, Board of Education members, students and district residents. There were 44 district stakeholders involved.

Johnson is retiring at the end of this school year. His replacement is expected to start on or around July 1, 2017, which is the start of the district’s next fiscal year.
Notes from the interview process are being compiled and reviewed, while additional aspects of the application process are ongoing.

Once the search process is complete the Board of Education will be making an appointment at a future date. The district is hoping to have a recommendation before the Board of Education at the March 20 meeting so that the successful candidate has a transition period with Mr. Johnson prior to his retirement.
