Meet the BOE candidates
UV voters will elect three members to serve on the Board of Education during the annual school budget vote on May 19.

The candidates are: Tammie Emrich, Mark S. Davis, and Carrie Meade.

Please see their profiles below.

MARK S. DAVIS

Personal Background

I attended Deposit Central School and graduated in 1980. I graduated from Broome Community College in 1985. I have been married to Barbara Davis for thirty years and we moved to Pittsfield in 1989. Both of our sons attended Unadilla Valley. Evan graduated in 2007 and Ian graduated in 2010. For the past 25 years I have worked at New York Central Mutual as a Computer Programmer. I have been a part of New Berlin and the UV District for 25 years.

Experience I will bring to the Board

I have been involved by serving the community as follows:

• Past Advisory Chairperson for the First United Methodist Church in New Berlin
• Past Secretary/Treasurer for Unadilla Valley Youth Baseball/Softball
• Volunteer Coach for T-Ball, Pee Wee and Little League
• Past Volunteer Coach for YMCA Basketball
• Past Volunteer Assistant Coach for Modified and Varsity Baseball at UV
• Currently serving as interim Board of Education member

Reasons for Running for the Board
I am running for the Board for the following reasons:
• I would like to be involved in the budget process
• To make sure we are properly staffed for our student enrollment
• To make sure we maintain a quality curriculum, but at the same time keep a watchful eye on taxes.
• I also want to be part of the building project team to keep our school up to date and efficient.

TAMMIE EMRICH
Personal Background
I have lived in the Unadilla Valley School District since 1995. My husband, Allen, and I live in Columbus with our two boys. Dylan is graduating from high school this year and Drew will be entering middle school in the fall.

Experience I will bring to the Board
I am entering my 23rd year at New York Central Mutual Insurance. I have been a volunteer on the New Berlin Youth Days committee since 2009. I assist the Unadilla Valley Youth Baseball and Softball League with their fund-raising efforts by managing the homerun fence banners.

Reasons for Running for the Board
I am seeking a second term as a member of the UV School Board. Over the past three years, I attended multiple workshops and would like to continue to build my knowledge of public education and work with others on the Board to provide continuous financially responsible support for the growth of our students

CARRIE MEADE

Personal Background
My name is Carrie Meade. My family has lived in South New Berlin for four generations. I graduated from South New Berlin Central School and attended Russell Sage College where I obtained my Bachelor’s in Nursing degree. My husband Mike and I live in South New Berlin where we raise our 14 year-old twins, Spencer and Shelby. Our children are in 8th grade at UV and are involved in multiple sports, FFA, and National Junior Honor Society.

Experience I will bring to the Board
There are many experiences I will bring to the Board. I worked for many years at Chenango Memorial Hospital as an I.C.U. RN and Nursing Supervisor. As a nurse you need critical thinking skills, the ability to make quick decisions based on all the information given, time management skills, budgeting skills, and prioritization. I believe my administrative skills and ability to make good decisions will serve me well on the Board of Education.

Reasons for Running for the Board
I think it is important to be involved in your community and schools. Being on the Board of Education is a hands-on way to be involved and to advocate for our students and district.
