Early dismissal, delayed start time and closing procedure

From time to time, there is a need due to uncontrollable circumstances to start school later in the day or close school. This procedure establishes the protocols to implement either option should that be necessary.

All notifications to staff will be made via the automated calling system (please make sure you update your contact information annually and any time it changes with Mrs. White). The decision to have a delayed start or to close will be made as early as possible. Every effort will be made to do this prior to 6 a.m. but sometimes that amount of notice is not possible.

Early Dismissal
Every attempt will be made to remain in school until our regular dismissal time. Should uncontrollable circumstances require an earlier dismissal; every attempt will be made to ensure all students remain in regularly scheduled classes until such time as all students have finished their regularly scheduled lunch period. Occasionally, there is a need to dismiss prior to the end of the last regularly scheduled lunch period and the district may alter the schedule to provide a lunch period for all students or may dismiss them without having time for lunch.

The dismissal schedule will be announced from the building offices after notifications have gone out through the normal emergency notification procedures.

Ten-month staff is expected to remain in the building until dismissed by the superintendent or his/her designee.

Twelve-month staff is expected to remain in the building until their regularly scheduled duties end unless the circumstances around the early dismissal warrant the district changing that schedule.

One-Hour Delay Schedule - Buses will unload at 8:45 a.m.

Closing
We build 6 to 8 emergency days into our school calendar annually. These days can be used for the purpose of closing school due to uncontrollable circumstances. If school is closed, that day does not count toward the required 180-day minimum New York State requires students to be in session. The decision is made for the safety of our students riding our buses to and from school if inclement weather is involved. Twelve-month staff is expected to report to work for their regularly scheduled duties unless the circumstances warrant the district changing that schedule.
