Unadilla Valley is a rural district with 1,040 pupils housed in one building that was completed in 2003. The Unadilla Valley Central School was established as a result of a merger between the former New Berlin and South New Berlin Central Schools, effective July 1, 1996. The teaching staff is composed of 105 full and part-time teachers and teacher assistants. There are 80 support staff members. The Administrative Council includes the Superintendent, High School Principal, Elementary School Principal, Middle School Principal, Director of Special Education, Director of Technology, and Business Official/School District Treasurer. Our district provides elementary students with Morning Program, a daily motivational assembly that helps begin the children's day on a positive note. Our Morning Program personnel have trained the staff of 120 other schools in New York State to create state-validated Morning Programs for their own elementary students. The district has an excellent Middle Level Education program (grades 6-8) that has been a model for small/rural schools. This program was accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools, Middle States Association in 1989. The High School uses a block schedule incorporating a 4 x 4 semester plan, and High School staff participate in the "University in the Classroom Program" offering students accredited courses through SUNY Albany. Unadilla Valley was the recipient of a New York State Community Schools program grant from 1992 - 2004. Now funded by the district, the Community Schools program continues to serve as a community school site. The district is also a designated Liberty Partnerships site in the consortium with SUNY Morrisville. Unadilla Valley Central School is a component of the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES and purchases both educational and support services from them. The district also participates in the Catskill Regional Teacher Center and is home to one of its satellite centers. |
